- Flip the chair over (or lay it on its side) so the star base with the casters is facing up.
- Remove the seat. Most seats are held on by four bolts through the seat plate into the mechanism below — unscrew them, or on some chairs the seat simply lifts off the top of the cylinder’s mounting plate.
